Is my portal password the same as my app password?

Yes! User email and password are the same for portal and app login

What kinds of consumables can I tag?

Any solid or liquid in a non-metallic container!

What is the tag operating temperature?

-25 to 50 degrees Celsius. RFID tags can work in the freezer, refrigerator, at room temperature, or even in a mild oven!

How does scanning work in the SST app?

The app uses the NFC scanner built into most modern smartphones

What is NFC and how do I enable it?

NFC stands for near-field communication, a type of close range radio frequency identification (RFID). NFC is known for its use in contactless payment as the “tap” option. However, in the SST app NFC is used to read tag ID not for payment.

Depending on what kind of smartphone you have, your device may have NFC automatically enabled, or you may enable it in your phone settings, usually under your “Connections” settings. Most newer smartphones have NFC capability.

What is the difference between NFC and dual frequency tags?

NFC tags use only near-field communication, the “tap” technology. These tags can only be read one at a time in close contact. Dual frequency NFC + UHF tags incorporate ultra high frequency (UHF), which allows the tags to be read from greater distance, and many tags at the same time. UHF technology allows a user to rapidly scan a multitude of inventory items, and determine the approximate location of inventory based on signal strength.

My tag isn’t scanning, what do I do?

Here are some things to check for if your tag is not scanning:

  • Check that NFC is enabled and your phone is within 1 cm of the tag.
  • Identify where the NFC scanner is in your phone (e.g. middle, top). Hold the tag at that location for a few seconds.
  • Make sure the surface you’ve tagged is not metallic. Metal reflects RF energy so the signal from the reader will never reach the tag.
  • Check that the tag is relatively dry and not too cold or too hot.
  • Wait 5 to 10 seconds, reboot or reset the app to the home page, and try scanning again.
  • Check that the tag is not torn or damaged. Try scanning a new tag.
How do I connect to my scale?

On the app there is a “Connect Scale” button that will show up onscreen after you scan your first item.

What is the scale capacity?

The scale capacity is from 0.1 g to 5 kg. Precision is +/- 0.1 g when weighing objects up to 1 kg, and +/- 1 g when weighing objects between 1 and 5 kg.

Do I need an active Internet connection while using the app?

Yes, updated consumable weight is transmitted to the inventory database over the Internet, so a connection is required in order to see live updates from other online devices

How does the app know how much is inside the container when I weigh it?

When you first enter a consumable and weigh it, you will tell the software how much stuff is in the container to begin with. The software will subtract the contents from the measured weight and store the container tare weight. Then later when you weigh the consumable again after use, the software will subtract the stored tare weight and show you the new updated weight of contents inside!
